GAA star, Dean Rock, encourages us to continue the great teamwork and download the new HSE COVID Tracker App

HSE Media Release: 10 July 2020

As football gradually makes a welcome return to our lives, football legend, Dean Rock, is encouraging us all to play as a team to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

In the video, the Ballymun Kickham’s star asks GAA fans and players to keep each other safe by downloading the new HSE COVID Tracker App.

Notable footballers including Paul Mannion, Noelle Healy, Cora Staunton, Tomás Ó Sé, Colm Cooper, Kieran Donaghy, Ciaran Kilkenny and John Egan have posted the video on their social media channels in support. Other sportspeople including camogie player, Anna Geary, golfer, Shane Lowry, hurlers, Jackie Tyrrell and Henry Shefflin, as well as Irish sports broadcasters, Jacqui Hurley and Evanne Ní Chuilinn have also shared the video.

Dean Rock said: “I’m delighted to be working with the HSE on the launch of its new COVID Tracker App. This is something that if used properly, could save lives and help us all get back to some form of normality. As sports players, it’s our responsibility to not only look after our own health but those of our teammates too.”

In the video, Dean Rock reminds us to keep up the great teamwork that means we are finally getting back to training and socialising again. By continuing to keep our distance, wash our hands, wear a face-covering in shops and on public transport and downloading the COVID Tracker App, we can reduce the spread of Covid-19. The app helps to track any symptoms of coronavirus and let us know if we have been in contact with anyone who tests positive for the virus.

We all need to play as a team to beat the virus together. By using the app, you are taking care of yourself, your teammates and your community.

Stay safe guidelines:

  •   As you return to training or even when going out with friends, it’s important to remember to play by the rules and stay safe.
  •  Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds and do it often.
  •  Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing, then bin the used tissue.
  •  Wear a face covering in shops and on public transport.
  •  Protect each other by downloading the app.
  •  Make sure you feel okay before you play to protect your teammates.
