HSE clarifies comments in Irish Examiner article

The HSE wishes to clarify certain comments made in an article in The Irish Examiner (today Dec 23) concerning the publication of two reports into a foster home in the South East.

The HSE has, to date, received no legal opinion from the Attorney General on this matter. The HSE would be happy to receive any such legal opinion from the AG, should it be available, in order to assist it (the HSE) with its independent decision around the publication of both reports.

The HSE notes the comments of the Minister of State in today’s article around his desire to have both reports “published now”. The Minister is aware that the HSE has written to an Garda Siochana and that the HSE is awaiting its response as to whether the publication of these reports will impede an ongoing investigation. As stated a number of times in the past, the HSE if fully committed to the publication of these reports at the earliest possible opportunity.

Earlier this year, the previous Minister of State was provided with a full copy of both reports. While awaiting the response from an Garda Siochana, the Minister has recourse to other options, aside from the HSE, in order to publish both reports.
