HSE National Cancer Control Programme holds the Advanced Nurse Practioners National Spring Forum in advance of European Cancer Nursing Day

European Cancer Nursing Day takes place today

Today, Thursday 18th May 2023 is European Cancer Nursing Day. The purpose of European Cancer Nursing day is to mark the positive impact that cancer nurses have on the delivery of quality cancer care across Europe.

HSE NCCP cancer nurses support our European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) colleagues who will this year focus on pioneering new approaches in cancer care through nursing innovation. Ireland is proud to be part of this innovation and this year’s theme is Driving innovation in Cancer Care.

On Wednesday, 10th May 2023, the HSE National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) hosted a National Spring Forum in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone.

The forum was held in celebration of our Irish Advanced Nurse Practioners working across our cancer services. These highly skilled Nurses deliver specialist care to cancer patients throughout their cancer journey in the 26 cancer hospitals around the country.

There are now over 120 Advanced Nurse Practitioners supporting our cancer patients in Ireland today.

The theme for the day was Digital Healthcare and how best our nursing practise can intersect between technology and healthcare using digital tools to improve communication and increase access to timely care.

Terry Hanan, National Clinical Lead for Cancer Nursing, NCCP said, ‘’the energy, enthusiasm and collaboration among these clinical nurse leaders was very evident. These ANPs are committed to providing a quality service to patients and their families in cancer services nationally.’’
