HSE offers COVID-19 bivalent booster to people aged 12-64 at high risk of serious illness

Call HSELive on 1800 700 700 to check what vaccine you had last time.

From today (Tuesday, 24th January 2023), the HSE will be contacting people aged 12 to 64 years with a condition that puts them at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19 to offer them a third COVID-19 booster dose if the second booster they received was not a bivalent vaccine.

Bivalent vaccines were introduced to the vaccination programme on 3rd October 2022. If you are not sure which vaccine you had you can contact HSELive on 1800 700 700 for details.

Eileen Whelan, National Lead, COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, HSE said: “Following recent NIAC advice we are offering a third booster dose to people with a condition that puts them at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19 if they have not had a bivalent vaccine previously. A bivalent booster will give better protection against COVID-19.”

While appointments are available from today on www.hse.ie, the HSE will also contact those eligible directly by text message requesting they make an appointment on www.hse.ie. Booster vaccines may also be available at participating pharmacies and GPs. You must wait 4 months since your last vaccine or COVID-19 infection.

The HSE strongly urges people who have not yet received a COVID-19 booster vaccine to check their vaccine status and to do so as soon as possible. You can do this by contacting HSELive on 1800 700 700
