The HSE has welcomed the significant increase in spending for health and social care services as announced by the Government in today’s budget.  The increase will greatly assist in dealing with the year-on-year rising demands on our healthcare system.

The HSE is currently engaged in National Service Plan discussions with the Department of Health, Minister Harris and the Ministers of State at the Dept of Health to determine how these monies will be spent in 2019.

Welcoming the announcement, the Interim Director General of the HSE Mr John Connaghan said: “The additional money received today is significant and most welcome.  I would like to thank the Government for recognising the increased demands on our health and social care services. Central to the National Service Plan for 2019 will be a focus on ensuring that all monies received are spent in the most cost-effective and efficient manner in line with the budgets agreed with service providers. This will ensure that safe and quality services are delivered to patients and service-users in line with the funding that we have received. This is especially important as we embark on a fundamental transformation of our health services in line with Sláintecare”.
