Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo COVID-19 vaccination teams are expanding their service with the addition of new Mobile Vaccination Units. There are 15 fixed Covid Vaccination Centres in Ireland and twelve new Mobile Vaccination Units, two of which have been allocated to the Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo areas.
The use of Mobile Vaccination Units offers increased accessibility and availability to the vaccination programme across the country, by providing an alternative option for people other than having to come in to fixed Covid Vaccination Centres. Launching this new model of operation is based on a successful model established by the Scottish Ambulance Service’s Covid vaccination response. The HSE wish to acknowledge and sincerely thank our colleagues in Scotland for their support and assistance in introducing this model in the Republic of Ireland.
The Mobile Units will add capacity to the vaccination programme and facilitate easy access to vaccination throughout the region, for both members of the public and health care workers. The units are being used to offer COVID-19 vaccination to members of the Public and Healthcare Workers and are also being used to support the HSE’s staff Flu vaccination programme by offering them the Flu vaccine. Offering increased access to healthcare workers for their winter vaccines is vital in order to keep them, and those they care for, safe and well this winter. Members of the public are being encouraged to attend their participating GP or Pharmacy for their Flu vaccine. Participating Pharmacies can be found on the HSE Pharmacy finder at: https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/flu/pharmacies-flu/
Sligo Leitrim commenced use of their Mobile Unit this week, offering a vaccination clinic in Ballymote Co Sligo. They will be at the following locations this coming week:
- Enniscrone Primary Care Centre Sligo this Friday 28th from 10am-3pm
- Tubbercurry Primary Care Centre Sligo on Wednesday 2nd of November from 10am-1pm
- Dromahair Primary Care Centre in Leitrim on Wednesday 2nd November from 2pm-4.30pm.
Further pop up clinics planned for this month across Sligo include Cliffoney and other North Sligo areas and across Leitrim include Ballinamore and Manorhamilton. The service will expand into additional geographical locations over the coming weeks and months ahead across all five counties. Clinics will be publicised on www.hse.ie and on our Twitter channel @HSECommHealth1. You can book your vaccine online at www.hse.ie/book or you can walk in to any of the clinics on the day.
Shona Gallagher, Operational Site Manager Sligo and Leitrim COVID-19 Vaccination Centres said the team in Sligo Leitrim is delighted to be making vaccination as accessible as possible for key target groups this winter. “Our Sligo and Leitrim COVID-19 Vaccination Team has completed 151,204 COVID-19 Vaccinations since the start of the COVID-19 vaccination programme. Most of these were completed through the vaccination centres in Sligo (129,251) and Carrick on Shannon (20,870) where a further 1,083 vaccinations were completed by our mobile vaccination teams who have visited homes, residential care facilities, HSE workplaces and Education centres across the two counties. We are delighted to expand our COVID-19 Vaccination Service to areas outside of our Sligo and Leitrim vaccination centres, with the introduction of our new Mobile Vaccination Unit and Pop up clinics which will allow us to offer a more flexible service and improve accessibility for the people of the region. The HSE advise that having up to date COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations this season will ensure you are winter ready and that you are protecting yourself and those around you from circulating winter viruses and the negative impact they can have. We will be rotating pop up clinic locations throughout the two counties in the coming weeks and months, so please look out for a clinic near you”
