New mobile Covid 19 Test Centre in Ferns, Co. Wexford

HSE Media Release: 12 October 2020

The HSE is concerned at a recent spike in confirmed cases of Covid 19 in the North Co. Wexford area and is appealing for individuals, businesses and community organisations to support its necessary contact tracing operations.

The HSE/South East Community Healthcare has set up a new Covid 19 test centre to help address the spike in cases and the tracing of close contacts. The facility begins operation today and is based at St. Aidan’s GAA grounds in Ferns, Co. Wexford. Attendance is by GP referral or arrangement via the HSE.

The HSE would also like to remind anyone that has Covid 19 symptoms of the necessity to self-isolate  (stay at home) and contact a GP.

Likewise, anyone who knows they are a close contact of a case needs to stay at home for 14 days pending testing.

Those who receive a positive test result will also need to self-isolate (i.e. stay at home) for 10 days.

Referrals trends are reviewed daily for all of the South East and this guides the operation of all centres. Testing also continues at community testing centres (by GP referral) in Wexford, in addition to Carlow, Clonmel, Kilkenny and Waterford.

If you have symptoms, phone your GP and they will assess you over the phone. Your test (if referred for one) and GP assessment will be free of charge (including GP out-of-hours services). If you don't have a GP, any GP can arrange a test for you. GP out-of-hours services can also arrange testing.

If your GP decides that you need to be tested, they will arrange a test for you. You will need to self-isolate while you wait for your test. You will get a text message with the time and location of your test.

If you test positive for coronavirus a contact tracer will call you. They will ask for contact details for any of your close contacts. If you test positive and have symptoms, they will ask about people and places you have visited 48 hours before your symptoms started and until you started self-isolating. If you test positive but do not have symptoms they will only ask about people and places you have visited 24 hours before your test took place and until you started self-isolating. The contact tracer will also ask if you have been using the COVID Tracker app.
