22nd April, 2008
Mr. Pat Carey, T.D. Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs today (22nd April, 2008) officially launched Ballymun Sequence and Sceal Eile, two art works commissioned by the HSE for the Ballymun Health Care Facility.
Both art works have a health promotion theme that link the community, both the young and the old, in an innovative manner.
Ballymun Sequence by Denis Connolly and Anne Cleary is an 11 minute video piece. The artists worked with people of all ages to explore movement using contemporary technology. Local people, dancers, jugglers, creche age children, were invited to explore an interactive video installation and the resulting images, full of colour and life, became the basis for the video work.
Sceal Eile by Robert Ballagh, Patrick Kavanagh and Aideen McBride is a collection of a number of stories from a selected number of Groups in Ballymun, stories from their memory or of their creation. The stories are displayed through audio and printed format and in a carved phrase hung on the wall.
The official launch of these art works is a ceremony in recognition not only of the work of the artists but of the local community groups who took part in the projects and made them possible.
The HSE secured funding under the Per Cent for Art Scheme for the commissioning of a Public Art Project for the new Ballymun Health Care Facility.
