The Health Service Executive (HSE) today announced the final phase of its current recruitment campaign for medical consultants with another 36 posts being advertised. This is a rolling campaign which began earlier this month with a total target of 132 posts advertised by this weekend.
Appointments to these positions will be made on the basis of a national Consultant Contract, the terms of which are currently being finalised by the health service employers and the consultant representative bodies. This new contract is set to bring big changes to the health services in Ireland as additional consultants are introduced into the health system.
The recruitment campaign for medical consultants, which has run for three weeks, will provide new doctors and more clinical decision makers right across all acute and community services.
Barry O'Brien, assistant national director of Human Resources, with the lead role in the implementation of the consultants' contract for the National Hospitals Office and all primary care services, emphasised -
"Last Saturday we welcomed the Irish Hospital Consultants Assocation's (IHCA) decision to recommend the new consultants' contract to its members.
This new consultants' contract represents a significant cataylst for change and opportunity to modernise the way health services are delivered. The contract is good for patients and good for consultants and we would encourage all consultants to embrace the opportunities it offers to both existing and new consultants."
"This recruitment campaign will further enhance patient access to our services and increase public confidence in the delivery of our health services by highly skilled staff."
