HSE West has received approval for the development of a new 100-bed Community Nursing Unit and DayHospital in Loughrea, Co. Galway. This new development forms part of the HSE’s overall plan for older people’s services, ranging from care in the home to respite care to more long-term care delivered as close as possible to the person’s home area.
Adrian Ahern, General Manager, Galway PCCC, in welcoming the approval of the new CNU and DayHospital, says that this new development will replace buildings dating back to the 1840s, which have served their purpose well over the years but are not now suitable for the standard of care and accommodation required in a modern health service.
The current planning brief document was developed using a partnership model involving HSE staff, capital projects staff and community groups, and the HSE will commence the process immediately to review this planning brief and cost plan.
The interim capital budget for the new CNU andDayHospitalis €16.5 million. This capital budget is to fund all the capital costs associated with the project, i.e. construction costs, design fees, equipment costs and other supplementary costs. A design team is in the process of being appointed to progress the design to tender stage.
