16th May 2008
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has today (Friday, May 16th) welcomed the decision of members of the Irish Hospitals Consultants Association (IHCA) to accept the new employment contract that will be available to all new HSE consultants - as well as existing consultants who choose to accept it.
The decision follows a ballot of IHCA members.
Pointing to the benefits of the new contract, Professor Brendan Drumm, CEO of the HSE, explained that:
"This new contract will act as an important catalyst for modernising our public health service and the main beneficiaries will be patients who use public health services. I also believe it is a positive platform from which consultants can become more actively involved in leading and influencing the direction of public health services".
The HSE also welcomes the decision of the Psychiatric Nurses' Association and SIPTU to accept the LRC proposals and to suspend their industrial action.
Welcoming the decision, Mr Brendan Mulligan of the HSEEA (Health Service Executive Employers Agency) stated that: "the HSE expects that normal working arrangements will be resumed as soon as possible."
