The Health Service Executive has welcomed the official opening of a community services complex in Dungarvan today (October 9th) by Minister Martin Cullen TD.
The new Presentation Community Development Centre has been developed by Dungarvan Town Council on its lands at the former Presentation convent site at Mitchell Street. The HSE contributed €1.6 million towards the project, which covered the costs of a Treatment & Assessment Centre for children with disabilities and purpose built space for delivery of specialist pre-school services.
Speaking about the HSE’s participation with the local authority and other agencies and organisations in bringing the Presentation Community Development Centre project to fruition, Ms. Margaret Browne (the HSE’s Co-ordinator for Disability Services in the Waterford Community Services area) said:
“The Presentation Community Development Centre features a state of the art therapeutic base, facilitating intervention and support services for children and young people with special needs. The Sesame school organisation – which receives significant ongoing funding from the HSE – will also be able to continue valued pre-school work with children aged 2-5 years old with special needs at a top of the range facility on campus. As part of catering for hundreds of clients from throughout West Waterford, the HSE expects that our facilities at the Presentation Community Development Centre will cater for up to 10 children at the pre-school unit and up to 35 children (aged up to 18 years old) at the therapeutic unit at any one time. The HSE congratulates Dungarvan Town Council on its partnership approach to developing this excellent resource for the local population.”
Note:The official opening of the Presentation Community Development Centre takes place at 5pm, Thursday October 9th in Dungarvan
