    Blood Lead Levels Normal - Joint Update from Galway City Council and HSE

    Results of blood lead levels on 35 people show that all of the results received to date are within the normal range, which means that none of those tested has any evidence of lead toxicity. Most of these people have been informed of these results today.

    HSE continues to urge over 65s and at risk groups to get the influenza vaccination

    The HSE encourages everyone over 65 and at-risk groups to get the influenza vaccination now as they normally would. The HSE stressed that the vaccine is available this year in the same manner as it has been over the past eight years.

    Health service staff set new Irish records at Beijing Paralympics

    Cyclist and HSE physiotherapist Catherine Walsh and her pilot Johanna Hickey set a new Irish record while finishing seventh in the final of the 1km time-trial in the Paralympic Games in Beijing at the weekend. Catherine’s very experienced tandem partner, Johanna Hickey, is a student nurse in Tallaght Hospital. Cyclist Michael Delaney, who works in the ICT department in Dr Steevens’ Hospital, and his sighted pilot, David Peelo, finished thirteenth in their individual pursuit event.    Michael and David also set a new Irish record in the 1km Time Trial

    Galway Junior Cert Students to Celebrate at Drug and Alcohol-free Event

    Over 900 young people from Galway City will receive their long awaited junior certificate results next Wednesday 10th September. For the third year running, all of the relevant youth agencies in the city will join together to provide a safe, drug and alcohol free venue for each junior certificate student in Galway to celebrate the achievement of completing their first state exam. Every student who receives their results next Wednesday will receive a free invitation to the mega-party, which will take place in Leisureland. The party will kick off at 8.30pm and will continue until 12 midnight.
