    People who take part in outdoor pursuits must protect against Lyme disease

    The HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre today, Wednesday, 27th April 2011, urged people who take part in outdoor pursuits to protect themselves against Lyme disease, which is spread by tick bites. Lyme disease can, in a minority of cases, cause severe debilitating heart and nervous system disease.

    HSE National Immunisation Office launched a new guide to childhood immunisation for parents

    Figures show that while overall immunisation uptake rates are improving, parents need to ensure that children are seen five times by their GP for immunisation in the first 13 months of life to be fully protected.

    Cork University Maternity Hospital Starts Hearing Screening for Newborns

    From today, April 26th 2011, parents of all babies born at Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) will be offered a hearing screening test for their baby prior to being discharged from hospital. The test is available free-of-charge for all babies. Any baby who does not have a clear response in one or both ears from the test will be seen for a full audiological (hearing) assessment at an Audiology Clinic in Cork University Hospital (CUH) shortly after discharge.
