An event promoting the local online Directory of Services for Sligo Leitrim www.sligoleitrimdirectory.ie was held Monday 21st November in the C.R.I.B Sligo.
This website provides official listings of over 100 services for children, young people and families in Sligo and Leitrim. This includes information on health, mental health, education, disability, youth, childcare and other services.
The website was developed by the Youth Mental Health Initiative in conjunction the Sligo Leitrim Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) and is funded by a variety of agencies.*
The website hosts information on services relevant to children from pre-birth to young adults (18-24 years). The target audience for this website is: Service providers (e.g. schools, youth services, health services, statutory agencies, voluntary groups, etc.), adults working with children, young people and families, parents / guardians / carers and young people
The North Connaught Youth and Community Service (NCYCS) were designated as the lead agency in relation to the development of the website and are responsible for operating and maintaining it. There were a number of other agencies involved in the development of the site including the HSE, Mayo, Sligo and Lei trim Education and Training Board (ETB), Meitheal, Sligo Leitrim Children and Young People’s Services Committee, Sligo Social Services Council Ltd. and Tusla, Child and Family Agency. The event was attended by approximately 40 people representing the various agencies.
Speaking at the event Mark O’Callaghan, Chairperson of the Youth Mental Health Initiative Principal Psychologist Manager with the HSE stated “Our promotion of the Sligo Leitrim Directory is a reminder that the Directory is live and provides a list of over 100 services, statutory and voluntary, available for children, young people and their families. It is also a call to agencies, statutory or voluntary, which provide services to children, young people and their families to register with the website by going to the bottom of the page and click on the icon to request registration of your service.”
Anne Brennan, Youth Information Officer with North Connaught Youth and Community Service stated “This is an invaluable resource for young people in Sligo Leitrim.The website www.sligoleitrimdirectory.ie acts as a One Stop Information Point with up-to-date and official information that is user friendly and easy to navigate for all ages.”
Also at the C.R.I.B today were medical students from Déan Athrú group which is a project organised by NUIG Medical Students. Each year, a topic is chosen which is felt they can have an impact on the lives of people they raise money for. This year they chose the Sligo/Leitrim Youth Mental Health Initiative. They did a bucket collection in Sligo, blood pressure clinics, talks on resilience at schools and a world record marathon relay race.
Mark O’Callaghan stated ‘‘I would like to thank the students from Déan Athrú sincerely on behalf of the Sligo/Leitrim Youth Mental Health Initiative for the cheque of €2,530. This donation will to go towards funding of training for frontline staff working with young people with mental health issues as well as the Sligo Leitrim Directory.”
