HSE Media Release: 12th April 2019
On the 8th of April, HSE Sligo/Leitrim Personal Supports & Training Service, in partnership with Sligo Sport and Recreation held its annual Boccia Tournament in the Knocknarea Arena IT Sligo for a eighth year running.
The HSE Ballytivnan Training Centre deservedly won back their title, having previously won the tournament in 2016.
A total of 7 agencies HSE Ballytivnan Training Centre, Rehab Care Sligo, Cregg HSE, Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre, National Learning Network Sligo, the HSE Resource Centre Ballytivnan Sligo, and Rosses Sheltered Workshop, met and challenged each other to an exciting competition in the Knocknarea arena, Sligo IT.
Approximately 60 players participated and there was great fun and excitement when Rosses Sheltered Workshop and Ballytivnan Training Centre progressed to a very competitive final. This is the first year for ever improving Rosses Sheltered Workshop to reach the final, but their efforts and skill was just out matched on the day by the triumphant Ballytivnan Training Centre team.
The Semi Finals proved very exciting, when last years winners Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre, Rosses Sheltered Workshop and two Ballytivnan Training Centre teams slogged it out to win a place in the Final. As one player remarked “ I love the Boccia cause I get to meet everyone again and have the cup of tea, I would miss it”.
HSE Sligo/Leitrim Personal Supports & Training Service and SSRP would like to thank all the agencies involved for their collaboration and in particular would like to thank the players for making the day a memorable one. Thank you to Daniel and Ross in Knocknarea Arena for their continuing support in setting up the arena for the 8th year of the festival.
A special thanks to volunteers on the day, the referees and Sligo Boccia Coach Mairead Connolly. Their refereeing was thorough and fair and without their support and commitment the competition would not be possible.
HSE Ballytivnan Training Services provides person centred supports and QQI accredited training programmes for adults with a disability.
