If you are looking for nursing home care for yourself or for a loved one, you will naturally wish to have access to as much information as possible about your options, or about a nursing homes you may be considering.

Up to 30th June 2009, the HSE was responsible for inspecting private nursing homes across Ireland, and posted reports of its inspections on this site.

To find these HSE reports issued before 30th June 2009 choose your county here.

From 1st July 2009, all designated centres, (including Health Service Executive (HSE) run centres; private and voluntary) are subject to independent inspection by the Health Information and Quality Authority or HIQA.

The Inspection process determines if designated centres for older people are providing a quality service for residents, in compliance with the Health Act 2007, regulations made under the Act and the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.

If residential services are not providing quality services, appropriate action will be taken by the Authority.  A register is kept of all designated centres and this register is publicly available on the HIQA website www.hiqa.ie
