SKILL (Securing Knowledge Intra Lifelong Learning) Programme
The Health Service SKILL programme is a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 5 training and development programme for Health Service Support Staff. The programme leads to internationally-recognised qualifications in the form of a QQI Award formerly known as FETAC. QQI is an independent State agency responsible for promoting quality and accountability in education and training services in Ireland.
In line with the Health Service People Strategy, this programme supports the delivery of safer better services. It focuses on enhancing the skill of frontline support staff in delivering person centred care to patients/service users, and their families across a variety of healthcare settings
The aims of the SKILL programme are to:
- Update and extend the knowledge, skills and experience of staff in order to make them more efficient in the jobs they perform and consequently improve services to patients/clients
- Develop areas of expertise in order to progress skill mix requirements of the health services
- Enhance job satisfaction and motivation in order that staff may contribute more fully to the attainment of their organisation’s mission and
- Develop strategies to create opportunities regarding promotional outlets and career path movement.
HR Leadership, Education and Talent Development (LETD) co-ordinates the SKILL Programme. Applications are currently open for Home Care Support Assistants who have an interest in obtaining the Health Service SKILL award at QQI Level 5.
