Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is available through many sexual health clinics and infectious disease services.
Types of PEP services available
PEP services are not the same at every clinic.
The service may:
- offer a PEP starter pack
- offer a full PEP service
- accept referrals for continued PEP and follow-up
See details for your nearest clinic and check what the PEP service offers.
It is usually one of the three detailed below.
PEP starter pack available
You are assessed. After the assessment, you get a short course of PEP if you need it. You do not get the full course. You need to attend another clinic for further assessment and continuation of treatment if recommended.
Full PEP service available
You are assessed. After the assessment, you may get the full course of treatment.
If you have already received a starter pack, you can attend to continue PEP treatment and follow-up.
Takes referrals for PEP continuation and follow-up
You can go here after getting a starter pack. At this service, you can continue PEP treatment and follow-up. You usually need to make an appointment.
