There was fun indoors and outdoors in recent weeks at St John’s Community Hospital Sligo, as the second Wise Roots Age Friendly Festival took place.

Residents, their families and friends were all treated to a day of entertainment, music and laughter at the community hospital. Music was also provided by Buncrana group Revival as well as many local talents such as Bridget and Tabby Callaghan, and the Sligo Filippino Community.

The good weather also saw residents going outside to visit some of the smaller animals of The Kiltimagh pet farm.

The Garden Room hosted an array of stalls, with an art gallery, face painting, hair braiding, cultural cuisines, taster facials, and crafts and plants created by the residents in St John’s Community Hospital on sale.

Nicola Scanlon Fox, Director of Nursing at St John’s Community Hospital explained that “after the success of the first age friendly Wise Roots Festival last year, the demand for a repeat show could not be ignored. It was a wonderful occasion which reflected the months of planning the committee put in. We would like to thank all the musicians and artists who made the day such a positive event.

Speaking afterwards, residents were all in agreement that they had really enjoyed the day and the many offerings of entertainment available. Ann noted how she “loved everything about it,” while Rose told they had “got it right,” with Liam commenting that he had really enjoyed the music.
