The demand on the CUH Orthopaedic trauma services has significantly exceeded capacity frequently in the last 12 months with regular cancellations of over 50% of cases daily. This results in excessive wait for surgery for patients with painful fractures and significant complications. Treatment is not being delivered in a timely manner. This is due to low staffing levels. The understaffing is evidenced by all metrics of staff to population and staff to activity indices. It is highlighted by comparison with other units in the country with less activity and more staff. CUH has the busiest trauma unit nationally while only being funded in 15th place nationally. ); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
