To ask the Minister for Health the current pathway for accessing paxlovid for patients at the highest risk of serious illness or death from Covid-19; if his attention has been drawn to reports of patients’ difficulty accessing this medicine within five days (I understand that a blood cancer patient contracted Covid, phoned St James and was told that he didn't need Paxlovid. He was told to contact them if his illness became more severe. Paxlovid only works in the first five days and is designed to stop a patient becoming severe. Also, an elderly patient was denied access to Paxlovid as he was vaccinated. The patient has now been sick for weeks with Covid.); the steps that are being taken to address barriers to treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
