International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on 12th May every year, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. This year, Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore commemorated this important day with an event to celebrate the cultural diversity and the multicultural teams among the nursing staff and healthcare assistants (HCAs) at the Hospital, where nurses and HCAs gathered with their home country flag, the Nursing Midwifery Practice Development Unit/CNME along with MRHT Practice Development offered guidance and support on professional development, as well as a promotion of health and wellbeing amongst the nursing teams.

As part of the celebrations, nursing staff from around the world working in the Hospital produced a video on what nursing means to them and why they choose to work in Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore. Click below to view this short video:

Louisea Burke, Director of Nursing, Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore commented: “International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution that nurses make to our society. We take this opportunity to celebrate our nurses working here in Tullamore. They come from all over the world, and are essential to the care received by all of our patients. I think this video demonstrates how dedicated, caring and committed our nursing staff are to patient centred care, as well as the collegiality and sense of team that exists in Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore.”

Eileen Whelan, Chief Director of Nursing & Midwifery and Quality, Dublin Midlands Hospital Group added: “It’s important to recognise and celebrate the exceptional work and the commitment of our nurses and midwives 24/7, 365 days a year. Its particularly important to recognise the value of our nurses and midwives on both the International Day of the Midwife (5th May) and the International Day of the Nurse (12th May). Thank you and congratulations to all the staff who recently celebrated their International days across all Hospitals in the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group.”
