The report of the Trauma Steering Group, A Trauma System for Ireland was published in February 2018. It is the culmination of the work of the Steering Group, chaired by Professor Eilis McGovern, which was established by the Minister for Health in 2015 to develop a trauma policy for Ireland.
The report recommends the establishment of an inclusive trauma system and sets out key recommendations for the organisation of trauma care and the provision of patient-centred trauma services. The report takes a whole system approach addressing all elements of the trauma care pathway including prevention, pre-hospital care, acute hospital care, rehabilitation and supported discharge.
This document sets out the membership of the Trauma Review Implementation Group (TRIG) as of June 2019.
The TRIG is the steering group established by the HSE in April 2018 to progress the implementation of four immediate actions identified in the report of the Trauma Steering Group.
The Public Consultation Document was developed by the TRIG to seek feedback from key stakeholders and members of the public on the original designation framework.
The document and original designation framework were subject to an eight-week public consultation which concluded in February 2019.
The Post-Consultation Document sets out the process that was used to review and analyse the responses received, and the TRIG’s consideration of the material and significant issues which arose. Respondents’ contributions then informed changes to the original designation framework.
The document was approved by HSE Leadership and acknowledged by the Department of Health, who requested that the HSE proceed with the designation process.
Submissions from the Hospital Groups in the Dublin region for their hospitals to be designated as the Major Trauma Centre for the Central Trauma Network and the Dublin Trauma Unit(s) will be assessed by the Independent Assessment Panel using the designation framework.
The framework was approved by HSE Leadership and acknowledged by the Department of Health, who requested that the HSE proceed with the designation process.
