Healthy Ireland

Healthy Ireland Framework 2013-2025

The Healthy Ireland Framework 2013-2025 supports Government’s response to Ireland's changing health and wellbeing profile.

A healthy population is a major asset for society and improving the health and wellbeing of the nation is a priority for Government. Healthy Ireland is a collective response to the risks that threaten Ireland’s future health and wellbeing. This new Framework calls for action to improve the health and wellbeing of the population of Ireland over the coming generation.

The Framework draws on existing policies but also proposes new arrangements to ensure effective cooperation and collaboration to implement evidence-based policies at Government, sectoral, community and local levels. It is about each individual sector helping to improve health and wellbeing for all.

The Healthy Ireland Vision

A healthy Ireland where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential, where wellbeing is valued and supported at every level of society and is everyone’s responsibility.

The four goals of Healthy Ireland are

  • Goal 1: Increase the proportion of people who are healthy at all stages of life
  • Goal 2: Reduce health inequalities
  • Goal 3: Protect the public from threats to health and wellbeing
  • Goal 4: Create an environment where every individual and sector of society can play their part in achieving a healthy Ireland

The Framework also outlines clear routes and strategies to achieve these goals, in which all people and all parts of society can participate.
