As UL Hospitals is considered a single hospital entity, we place patients in the most appropriate hospital as deemed by the admitting consultant following review of the patient. This means the consultant in UHL may deem a patient suitable to continue their care and treatment in St. John’s, Ennis or Nenagh. This may happen very early on in a patient’s care, such as in the emergency department or the acute medical assessment unit or it may happen later on, while the patient is in an inpatient ward after initial treatment has started. The Patient Flow Team will organise the transfer and liaise between the relevant consultants. Equally a patient in St. John’s, Ennis and Nenagh whose consultant deems they require treatment in UHL will be transferred there.
