Samaritans Ireland: Media Guidelines for Reporting Suicide

On average, more than 700 individuals take their own lives by suicide each year, across both the Republic of Ireland (ROI) and Northern Ireland (NI). Some of these deaths attract media attention. Suicide is a complex topic and presents a distinct
set of challenges for the journalists who report on it.

Samaritans and IAS’ Media Guidelines for Reporting Suicide have been produced following extensive consultation with journalists and editors throughout the industry.
