The Department of Health and Children, in consultation with the HSE, is responsible for setting remuneration for HSE employees. Most HSE salaries are incremental and the number of increments is determined by the particular grade of the employee. An increment is an increase in pay and the amount can be found on the consolidated payscales. Increments are paid subject to satisfactory service in the preceding year. The payment of increments is considered annually for relevant grades.
Incremental credit may also be given on appointment for certain types of relevant previous experience in medical, dental, administrative, paramedical, nursing and non-nursing grades.
