Our Strategy

Our Role & Structure, Our Contacts

The unit was established in 2017 and merged with the workforce planning and informatics unit. It aims to enhance and strengthen its’ provision of data through the use of these web-pages within the HSE web-site. We hope that optimising this resource will augment and build an increased knowledge and heightened capability of workforce planning (WFP) across our health service.

The unit sits within the National HR division. It was established in 2017 following the publication of the National Strategic Framework for Health and Social Care Workforce Planning “Working Together for Health”, DOH 2017. The National Service Plan 2019 and the revised People Strategy 2019-2024 have identified the need to guide organisational people services in 2019 with an emphasis on encouraging leadership, talent and capability. A key focus of the People Strategy is to build a resilient workforce that is supported and enabled to deliver the Sláintecare vision. This dedicated focus on workforce planning, enhancing leadership and accountability, and building organisational capacity is intrinsic to the work of the Strategic Workforce Planning and Intelligence Unit supporting the National HR division in the on-going implementation of:

• The People Strategy 2019-2024
• Working together for Health – A National Strategic Framework for Health and Social Care workforce planning.
• Slaintecare Implementation Strategy

Communication and engagement with key stakeholders will be a key component of the implementation of these priorities. It is essential that partners and stakeholders at all levels have an understanding of workforce planning and their roles in informing and supporting the work.

We provide a range of services nationally including: workforce intelligence reporting, workforce planning support, and hope to establish a data base of WFP tools, enhance LETD in workforce planning and expand on the development of WFP within our services over the next year.
