Waiting List Improvement Update - September 2023

Outpatient Appointments

The National Service Plan (NSP) target for 2023 is that 90% of people are waiting less than 15 months for an outpatient appointment by year end.
Currently 84% of people are waiting less than 15 months for an outpatient appointment.

Inpatient and Day Case Procedures

The National Service Plan (NSP) target for 2023 is that is that 90% of people are waiting less than 9 months for an inpatient or day case procedure by year end.
Currently 75% of people are waiting less than 9 months for an inpatient or day case procedure.

GI Scopes

The National Service Plan (NSP) target for 2023 is that is that 95% of people are waiting less than 9 months for a GI scope appointment by year end.
Currently 93% of people are waiting less than 9 months for a GI scope appointment.

We are keen to acknowledge the improvements in the waiting lists across the specialties, hospitals, and hospital groups. The table below shows the number of specialties in each hospital group that are meeting the waiting time targets according to the categories listed below.
We recognise that in some cases there are constraints relating to capacity and associated demand that may be outside the local hospital teams’ control, which impacts on timeframes associated with accessing care or treatment.

Category 1 - Sláintecare

The number of specialties achieving the Sláintecare waiting time targets:

  • OPD - Specialties that have 100% of patients waiting <10 weeks
  • IPDC - Specialties that have 100% of patients waiting <12 weeks
  • GI Scopes - Specialties that have 100% of patients waiting <12 weeks

Category 2

The number of specialties achieving the following waiting time targets:

  • OPD - Specialties that have 100% of patients waiting <15 Months
  • IPDC - Specialties that have 100% of patients waiting <9 Months
  • GI Scopes - Specialties that have 100% of patients waiting <9 Months.

Category 3 - NSP 2023

The number of specialties achieving the following waiting time targets:

  • OPD - Specialties that have 90% of patients waiting <15 Months.
  • IPDC - Specialties that have 90% of patients waiting <9 Months.
  • GI Scopes - Specialties that have 95% of patients waiting <9 Months.
