HSE consumer affairs regional managers have been nominated as deputy data protection officers (DDPO’s).

DDPOs are available to support you. They have data protection expertise and experience. It is important that you take their advice. If not, you are risking possible disciplinary action.

If you are in doubt about anything related to data protection, contact your region’s data protection officer.

Data breaches

Contact a DDPO immediately if you become aware of a data breach.

Request for access to records

When you receive a request for access to records this must be:

• copied immediately to your local DDPO
• responded to within one month

Consent

We require consent from service users for clinical procedures.

We do not require consent to process the data of patients and service users.

(Article 6(1) and Article 9(2) of the GDPR)
