‘Connection is Protection’ this World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

The HSE Dublin and South East Adult Safeguarding Team will mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Friday, 13 June in conjunction with An Post by hosting information and drop in stands at post offices across the South East region.

Every older person across the South East has a right to live a life free of abuse. If you are an older person, or if you are worried about an older person, who may be experiencing abuse, mistreatment or not being cared for adequately, there is help and support available.

Call in to the HSE Safeguarding Team information and drop in stand in the main Post Office in your county for confidential advice, support, information and guidance. There will also be a private drop in space available on the day for anyone who wants to confidentially talk to a member of the team about any worries that they may have and seek specific support.

HSE Safeguarding Team members will be available in the Post Offices listed below from 9am to 3pm on Friday on Friday 13 June:

  • Carlow Post Office, Burrin St , Carlow Town
  • Kilkenny Post Office, High St, Kilkenny City
  • Clonmel Post Office, Emmet St, Clonmel Town
  • Waterford Post Office, Custom House Quay, Waterford City
  • Wexford Post Office, Anne St, Wexford Town

Rob O’Connor, Principal Social Worker for the HSE Adult Safeguarding Team in the South-East commented: “This year the theme of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is ‘Connection is Protection’ and we on the HSE Adult Safeguarding Team are delighted to partner with An Post to promote this. If you are an older person or are worried about an older person experiencing abuse or neglect it can be daunting to speak to a professional or go to a HSE building for help or support.

“This year, the team is going out into the community and will be in the main Post Office in each county on Friday, 13 June to connect with people and be available to speak to anyone that has a worry about an older person and provide information and support.”
