HSE South West is pleased to confirm that funding has been secured to provide additional residential and respite places for adults with disabilities in Kerry.
This follows extensive work by HSE South West with a range of disability services in the county.
Funding is now in place to allow St John of God Kerry services to convert an existing building in Listowel into a residential services for four people. Ashfield House in Listowel is currently used as a day service, and funding is now in place to refurbish the building and to recruit additional staff.
The allocation of funding means that work can begin on refurbishing the building. These works are expected to take a number of months, and once completed the new service will need to register with HIQA.
SJOG Kerry Services will keep families updated on the progress of the project.
Angela O’Neill, Head of Disability Services, HSE South West said:
“Once registered, this house will provide a home for four people with disabilities. We are pleased to work with St John of God on this very positive development which will allow four people from Kerry to access a residential service in their own county.”
In addition, Orchard Care has started providing respite services at their house in North Kerry. This replaces the service previously delivered by Kerry Parents and Friends Association at Cois na Feile, and is a much needed enhancement of respite availability in Kerry.
