St. Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit, Trim marked National Palliative Care week with lots of activities over 3 days.
The Solace Group at St Joseph’s, who organised the events, are focused on enhancing the end-of-life experience for residents, their families, and staff. The aim of the events was to increase awareness around the importance of end of life care planning and empowering residents and clients in voicing their wishes.
Nina Carberry, MEP and Cllr. Joe Fox attended a Candlelight Memorial Service and spoke with residents, families and staff to hear first-hand of their experience of life and end of life care in the centre. This group focuses on enhancing the end-of-life experience for residents, their families, and staff. Though still in its early stages, the positive impact of the group is already being felt and with a clear vision for the future, its potential continues to grow.
Speaking at the recent event, Silin Joseph, Director of Nursing, said:
‘St. Joseph’s CNU is proactively responsive to continuously improving its research-based care. The centre strives to uphold and surpass its high standards, to ensure residents remain connected to their communities, maintain their independence, and receive support in a dignified and respectful way that meets their individual wishes and needs.’
Earlier this year St. Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit celebrated success at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards 2025. Having been shortlisted in 3 categories, St. Joseph’s CNU proudly took home the award for Nursing Home/Residential Centre (Public) of the Year on the night. This marks the second time the centre has been shortlisted and won the award, having also been successful in 2022. This recognition is a testament to the commitment and dedication of management, staff, and residents, reflecting the high standard of care provided and the extensive redevelopment of the centre over the past decade.
Patricia Greville, Manager of Louth/Meath Services for Older Persons said:
‘St. Joseph’s CNU offers a person-centred, proactive service that continually adapts to meet the evolving needs of its residents. Alongside substantial HSE investment in the facility, initiatives such as an active onsite Green Team, an expanded activities programme, ongoing staff training and development, access to an onsite multidisciplinary team and the support of 'The Friends of St. Joseph's CNU' have all contributed to elevating the quality of care.’
