Physiotherapy - Loughlinstown / Killiney Primary Care Team

The physiotherapy service aims to support patients in the community to be as independently and functionally safe as possible. The service is provided either in the clinic or home setting as appropriate. Physiotherapy staff can help with specific problems such as muscle and joint injury, back pain with chest conditions and any problems that affect balance or mobility.

Out-Patient (Clinic) Physiotherapy

Mainly clients with soft tissue injuries will receive services in this setting. Only clients registered with the designated GPs and/or living in the geographical area of the health centre are eligible for this service. Priority will be given to clients with medical cards and clients living in the geographical areas of the health centre clients living outside Dublin south local health office are not eligible for this service.

The main focus of the physiotherapist is to reduce pain and correct dysfunction and injury. By identifying the factors that led to the problem in the first place, the physiotherapist can advise on how to avoid recurrence of the problem in the future. The physiotherapist will also estimate the number and frequency of treatments needed and outline what to do at home and/or work to help speed up recovery.

Physiotherapy at home

Domiciliary

This is provided to clients who have difficulty accessing clinic setting, mainly over 65 y/o clients or clients who have severe disability. Only clients living in the catchment area of the heath centre are eligible for this service.Treatment focuses on maintaining or improving mobility, function and physical activity in the home or community, with an aim to maximize independence through exercise self management principles and/or advice to carers.
These clients include

  • Frequent fallers
  • Terminal clients having difficulty with mobility
  • Cardio/respiratory
  • Neurological conditions
  • Post hip or knee surgery

Referrals are made through GP, Hospital or any member of the Primary Care Team
