Location:
The Theatre Block is located on the first floor with a corridor on the right before St. Clare's Ward leading directly into the Theatre area.
The Theatre Department in Portiuncula Hospital consists of three Main Theatre, Minor Operation Room, Endoscopy suite and 8 Bed Day Care.
Services provided:
The theatre is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week .We cater for emergency theatre at all times. The following specialities are incorporated:
- General Surgery
- Obstetric & Gynaecology
- Urology
- Dental Surgery
- Pain Management
- Oral Maxilo-facial
Children/ Young Adults
When children and young adults come to theatre we encourage their carer to accompany them until anaesthesia is commenced.
We contact the carer again when the child/ young adult is awake and over their surgery, they are invited to come to the recovery room.
Day Care
Our day care facilities have 8 bed area where patients are admitted prior to surgery/ procedures.
Patients will be given a time to attend to the Day Care and an information sheet on fasting times & relevant information when the appointment is made.
Most patients stay from Four to Six hours if they are having a general anaesthetic and one to three hours for sedation.
Endoscopy
The Joe Groarke Endoscopy suite provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both day patients and inpatients.
They include:
- Gastroscopy (oesophagus including stenting, stomach, duodenum)
- Colonoscopy (rectum, sigmoid, large bowel,)
- ERCP
