HSE BreastCheck adds new screening location in Cork City

A new BreastCheck screening unit is opening in Cork City on Monday, 8th January 2024. Located in Gurranabraher, this means BreastCheck will be more accessible to women living on the north side of the city and county. There are now three BreastCheck screening units in Cork and women will be offered breast screening at one of the three locations in the city.

The new location is on the grounds of St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital, Baker’s Road, Gurranabraher, Cork, T23 X440 with free parking available.

BreastCheck, the national breast screening programme, aims to invite women aged 50 to 69 for breast screening every two years. We will invite eligible women for screening at the new unit over the coming months. Each invitation letter will include full details about their screening appointment, and the address and/or Eircode of the unit the woman should attend.

BreastCheck Programme Manager Suzanne Lynch said: “It is our aim to have as many women as possible choose to come for breast screening. This means addressing as many barriers to screening as we can. We know that access can be a barrier and we hope that our new unit on the grounds of St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital will make screening more accessible to women living on the north side of Cork city and county. We are grateful to St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital for hosting us.”

Our two existing screening locations in Cork are:

  • BreastCheck Southern Unit, Infirmary Road, Cork, T12 ET99
  • BreastCheck on the grounds of St Finbarr’s Hospital, near Block 23, Douglas Road, Cork (no Eircode available)

Anyone with additional queries, or who needs to change the place, date or time of their screening appointment, can contact BreastCheck Southern Unit, and suitable arrangements will be made. Telephone 021 464 9700, Monday to Friday between 8am–5pm; Freephone 1800 45 45 55 from 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday; or email info@breastcheck.ie.

We remind all women aged 50-69 to check that they are on the BreastCheck register at www.hse.ie/breastcheck.
