Sligo Champions bring cup and smiles to St John’s Community Hospital

Black and white was the theme for the afternoon in St John's Community Hospital, Sligo recently to welcome the J.J Fahy CUP and Sligo GAA under 20's Connaught Champions and All Ireland finalists to a celebration of GAA.

The Sligo GAA under 20's team were welcomed to the Garden Room with a chorus of the Sunday Game theme song setting the scene for a great occasion.

Former pillar of the Sligo County GAA team defense line Ross Donovan reminisced on the 2007 Championship with residents and shared stories of the successful campaign the under 20's team had this year.

Sligo GAA U-20’s retained their Connaught Championship title in April this year, seeing off Galway.

Residents and staff were delighted to meet and greet the players and management team, and share GAA stories of years gone by.

Resident Tom Johnston, a former Sligo GAA player and provided the under 20's players with many words of wisdom.

Younger supporters put on a football display in the courtyard, with plenty of future County potential identified.

The catering department at St John’s provided a lovely reception with the black and white decorated cupcakes a proving a definite hit.

Nicola Scanlan Fox, Director of Nursing, St John's Community Hospital, Sligo said “An energetic afternoon was enjoyed by all, and staff and residents of St John's Community Hospital would like to thank the players and management for kindly visiting with their well deserved trophy.”

The residents in St John's Community Hospital have every faith this team will bring the Sam Maguire Cup to Yeats County in the near future.
