Information for Relatives
If you're looking for details about relatives who might be buried in St Loman’s Graveyard, here’s how to find out more.
St. Loman’s Graveyard was operational from 1907 to 1971. Approximately 1300 patients were buried there during that period. Many other patients who passed away in St. Loman’s were returned to families for burial elsewhere, in family plots etc.
How can I find out if my relative is buried in St Loman’s Graveyard?
If you believe that a relative of yours died and was buried in St Loman’s during this period, you can contact Midlands Mental Health Services for further information.
Who can seek this information?
We can only confirm whether someone is buried in the Graveyard to the Next of Kin. You will need to establish that you are one of the Next of Kin of the deceased. Next-of-kin refers to the closest living blood relative.
How do I establish that I am the Next of Kin?
This can be established through documentation such as birth certs, marriage certs and in some cases, death certificates. You can also submit an affidavit or other acceptable proof. Each circumstance is different so if unsure, you are advised to contact the General Manager for Mental Health Services at 057 8692999 or GMMentalHealth.Midlands@hse.ie
What else will I need to provide?
You will need to provide a copy of valid State Identification (passport, drivers licence etc.)
If I can establish my status of Next of Kin, what information can I expect to get?
Once satisfied that you are Next of Kin, the HSE will be able to confirm to you whether your relative is buried in St Loman’s Graveyard or not.
If your relative is buried there we will be able to tell you:
- The date of burial
- The plot number
- The grave number
- The name of the clergyman in attendance
This information will allow you to estimate where in the Graveyard your relative is buried.
Will I be able to mark the grave (e.g. with a cross)?
Families can be facilitated to mark the grave of a deceased relative on request. No markings should be placed without discussion with the HSE.
