Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) is an acute general and maternity Hospital, which forms an integral part of the Health Service Executive North West Region. The Hospital aims to deliver a patient-centred, quality-driven focused service and provides a wide range of diagnostic and support services. LUH is a teaching hospital with links to the National University of Ireland Galway, the Royal College of Surgeons and the Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
About the hospital
Letterkenny General Hospital is a 302 bedded General Hospital, which provides a wide range of acute hospital services on an in-patient, day-case and out-patient basis, services include Intensive Care, Coronary Care, General Medicine, Geriatric care, Renal Dialysis, General Surgical and Urology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric care (including a Neo-Natal Unit), Orthopaedics and most recently Consultant-led Oncology and Haematology Services.
There is a full range of clinical and non-clinical support services available on-site including four main theatres, CSSD Department, Pathology/ Laboratory Department and a Pharmacy Department. Part of the main Letterkenny General Hospital building includes an Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit. This facility provides 56 beds for patients requiring admission as a result of an acute episode of mental health illness. On the St. Conal's Hospital side of the campus there are two long-stay psychiatric wards.
In the St. Conal's building, Social Therapy and Occupational Therapy Services are provided to psychiatric patients both on an in-patient and day service basis. The Psychiatric Services in St. Conal's Hospital avail of many of the core clinical and non-clinical support departments in the main Letterkenny General Hospital building. These services include Pathology, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, CSSD, Non-Nursing Services and Catering Services.
