Your Pharmacist can assist you in keeping well during the Christmas/New Year period - HSE/South East Community Healthcare

HSE/SECH Media Statement
22 December, 2023

Further to HSE in South East urges public to consider all care options this Christmas and New Year, the HSE/South East Community Healthcare (SECH) are reminding people, that if unwell, consulting pharmacies is a care option to consider (in addition to Caredoc) this Christmas and New Year period and before presenting at hospital Emergency Departments (EDs).

With patient safety being at the forefront of everything the HSE does, people who do require emergency care are encouraged to attend EDs where they will be prioritised. When there is a large volume of ED attendances, patients are prioritised in terms of clinical need and wait times for non-urgent care can be lengthy.

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can give you advice when you feel unwell, recommend medicine that doesn’t require a prescription, give vaccines and advise if you need to visit a GP for further treatment. For a summary of services and supports available in pharmacies, see Community Pharmacies.

Attached are a list of pharmacies by location, eircode and phone number across counties Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford and - where indicated to the HSE/SECH (and may be subject to change) - opening times applicable on specific days during the Christmas and New Year period. Those who responded and indicated to HSE/SECH they would be open for some hours during the days specified, are highlighted in green. Others may also be open likewise, so contact details appear for all pharmacies in the South East.
