Welcome to the Regional Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Education (RCNME) located at Academic Centre ,Connolly Hospital and St. Ita's Campus, Portrane. The RCNME was established in 2002 by the Department of Health and Children for the purpose of providing in-service training and continuing education for registered nurses/midwives and other healthcare professionals as part of CHO 9 in the HSE-Dublin North East Region. These include services within the Acute Hospital sector, Primary, Community and Continuing Care representing Mental Health, Intellectual Disability, Public Health, Older Persons, Psychiatry of Old Age and Practice Nurses etc.
A range of education programmes are provided including mandatory training, compulsory training and Health and Safety training. In addition, we provide academic programmes accredited by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and other Professional Organisations as appropriate.

Role and Function of Regional Centre of Nursing and Midwifery Education:
1. To provide in-service education / training for registered nurses/midwives/healthcare professionals.
2. To act as a Centre for professional development of nurses/midwives within the health service.
3. To provide support and development for staff in clinical areas to which student nurses are assigned.
Board of Management:
The Regional Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Education is placed within the Office of the Nursing Services Director based at Dr Steven’s Hospital HSE, is managed by a Director and overseen by a Board of Management within the region. The Board is composed of Directors of Nursing representing stakeholders in the HSE Dublin North East Region and chaired by the Director of Regional Nursing, Midwifery, Planning and Development. The Board of Management meets four times per year in which education and training as well as other related matters are addressed.

When entering the hospital from the N7, proceed to a small roundabout, take the third exit and the Academic Centre is the three storey building on the right hand side. Enter the Academic Centre building and take the first corridor on left hand side to locate staff offices (see map attached)

From the south. (M1 northbound to Dublin Airport/ Belfast)
On the M1, take the EXIT 4 for Skerries/ Donabate, at the round-a-bout take the 2nd exit for Donabate/ Portrane.
Follow the road into Donabate continuing straight at the traffic lights onto the Distributer Road
Continue on this road (no turns) into Portrane
Just as you enter Portrane, notice a housing estate on your left and railings/ entrance on your right- this is the entrance to St Ita’s Campus
Proceed up the avenue with cottages on your left and right
When you come to a roundabout at the top of the avenue Tayleur House is located on the right on the opposite side of the road, visitors park on the left – follow the signs/ blue path
