Bereavement Support

Unfortunately, not all pregnancies result in the delivery of a healthy baby. It can be a devastating and complex time for families.

Pregnancy loss affects 1 in 5 pregnancies less than twelve weeks gestation and around 1 in 200 pregnancies in the mid and final trimester or around the time of birth.

Our bereavement support team based within the department are available to help, support, guide and accompany families who have experienced or are experiencing pregnancy and perinatal loss.

They also support families whose baby has been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition where perinatal hospice is the approach of care and families who struggle with the worry of pregnancy following a loss.

The aim of bereavement support is to nurture the ‘continued bond’ between baby and family and it is individually tailored to be family-centred mindful of holistic and cultural values.

Please feel free to contact a member of our local bereavement team for support or advice
