Red Cells (additive solution) Leucocyte depleted

  • General Description: Red cell suspension obtained from whole blood
  • Volume: 280 ml (approx)
  • Storage Temp: 2 - 6°C
  • Shelf life: 35 days
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: 4 hours to complete transfusion
  • Compatibility testing requirement: Should be compatible with recipient ABO & RhD type

 

Platelet concentrate (Pooled/Apheresis)

  • Product: Platelet concentrate (Pooled/Apheresis)
  • General Description: Platelet preparation from pooling of 5 single donor units or single apheresis donor
  • Volume: >300ml per pooled unit >160ml per apheresis prep
  • Storage Temp: 22۬°C
  • Shelf life: 7 days under gentle agitation
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: Immediate use if not agitated
  • Compatibility testing requirement: Preferably ABO identical with recipient group

 

Human Pooled Plasma

 

  • Product: LG Octaplas
  • General Description: Octaplas LG pooled plasma
  • Volume: 200ml
  • Storage Temp: Frozen ≤ - 18°C, Thawed 2 - 6°C 
  • Shelf life: 4 years -frozen
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: Immediate use preferable, must be used within 8 hours
  • Compatibility testing requirement: Preferably ABO identical with recipient group, recent group must be available (i.e. from current inpatient stay)

Cryoprecipitate

 

  • Product: Cryoprecipitate
  • General Description: FVIIIC >70iu/unit Fibrinogen >140mg/unit vWF >100iu/unit
  • Volume: 30-40 mls
  • Storage Temp: ≤ - 30°C
  • Shelf life: 12 months - frozen
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: Immediate use preferable, must be used within 6 hours
  • Compatibility testing requirement: Preferably ABO identical with recipient group, recent group must be available (i.e. from current inpatient stay)

Human Albumin

 

  • Product: Human Albumin
  • General Description: Pooled donor plasma
  • Concentration/ Volume:
    50g/L (5%) 250ml or 500ml
    20g/L (20%)  100ml
  • Storage Temp: 2-25°C
  • Shelf life: 2 years
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: Discard any remaining product after use
  • Compatibility testing requirement: None

 

Anti-D Immunoglobulin

 Product: Anti-D Immunoglobulin

  • General Description: Liquid concentrate vial of anti-D Ig produced from human plasma
  • Volume: 1500 IU (300µg) per IM injection
  • Storage Temp: 2-8°C
  • Shelf life: Do not use after expiry date
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: Solution to be used immediately after preparation
  • Compatibility testing requirement: G&S <72 hours Only for RhD Negative females where clinically indicated

 

Clotting Factor Concentrates

  • General Description: Freeze-dried human or recombinant factor concentrates
  • Volume: Contact the Haematology team
  • Storage Temp: 2-6°C
  • Shelf life: Do not use after expiry date
  • Storage outside of controlled environment/after preparation: Immediate use preferable – Refer to product insert for reconstitition
  • Compatibility testing requirement: None

Administration

  • Record details of each blood component infusion in the patient's case record.
  • Follow local procedures or protocols for ordering and administering blood components.
  •  For special blood product requirements i.e. irradiated, washed, reconstituted or split products, the shelf life may be shortened.
