Dementia Care in General Practice - GP Facilitator Workshop

In 2015, the PREPARED team, developed two evidence-based evaluated and accredited dementia workshops which were run by a team of skilled GP facilitators based around Ireland to GPs and practice staff in their practices.

  • These practice-based workshops were focused on diagnosis and post diagnostic care, and on the management of the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.  The workshops were interactive and consisted of case studies to stimulate discussion.
  • The workshops were fully accredited by the ICGP for 3 hours in total for CPD external credits.
  • Between June 2016 and December 2018, over 10 GP facilitators worked together with the PREPARED team to run approx. 90 workshops for GP practices and groups of GP practice teams and registrars around the country.  Around 300 GPs  participated in workshop 1 with 250 GPs participating in workshop 2.
  • In addition, some ICGP Continuing Medical Education (CME) small group sessions around the country have used the workshop material (Cork City, Dungarvan, South Dublin, Galway and Waterford have already used the PREPARED dementia materials for sessions in 2016-2018 reaching over 220 GPs)

These resources are openly available to organisations, GPs and GP educators/tutors who may use these resources in developing or delivering their own education.
