The Acute Hospital Finance– Activity-Based Funding (ABF) / Healthcare Pricing Office (HPO) function is responsible for ensuring a strong, integrated financial performance system is in place for the Acute Hospital Division. They are also responsible for developing and implementing ABF for all Public Hospitals.
The function is made up of two teams, which work closely together in meeting the overall objectives of the function.

In 2016 the HSE introduced a new funding model for hospital care for inpatient and day-case services known as ‘Activity Based Funding’ (ABF). This means a specified price is paid to each hospital for each weighted unit of inpatient work and each weighted unit of day-case work.
