The Green Team in Tullamore Hospital host Sustainability Awareness Event

Today, Wednesday the 22nd November, the Green Team of the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore (MRHT) held a sustainability awareness event focusing on energy reduction, waste segregation and the associated carbon footprint reduction.

At this event, all hospital employees and the public were encouraged to consider any small changes both at home and at work that may reduce energy use.  Examples include simply switching off lights, turning off radiators when possible and ensuring that all non-essential computers and monitors are powered off each evening and weekends.

The MRHT Green Team consists of a group of interested staff members, supported by dedicated HSE Estates’ Sustainability and Energy Officers, working together on environmental initiatives throughout the campus. Green Team members act as environmental champions, providing onsite leadership and actively assisting the delivery of energy and water saving and waste reduction projects.

HSE Regional Energy Officer, Evan Weatherup said “Over the last 18 months the Green Team in Tullamore hospital has been working hard on improving the waste management systems in the hospital. These improvements have been made possible through dedicated Climate Action and Sustainability Office funding but it is up to everyone on the hospital campus to ensure the right waste goes in the right place.”

The event is also aimed at raising staff awareness of the staff Green Team, the Climate Action and Sustainability Office and government mandated energy reduction and sustainability goals for the HSE.

  • Sustainable buildings and the green environment around them
  • Transport and how people move around our services
  • Sustainable procurement
  • Greener models of healthcare
  • Water and waste management
  • Adaptation and resilience of greener healthcare into the future
