The HSE Children First National Office works to support HSE Funded Agencies in safeguarding children through the effective implementation of Children First.
We do this by:
- Providing information and training to staff of HSE Funded Agencies.
- Developing guidance, policy, resources and tools to support good child safeguarding practices and standards.
- Monitoring Children First Compliance to ensure that HSE and HSE Funded Agencies are aware of, and complying with their Children First obligations in line with relevant legislation and Children First National Guidance.

Children First Implementation and Compliance Self-Assessment Checklist
A Children First Implementation and Compliance Self-Audit Checklist (Microsoft Word, 86 KB, 18 pages) is also available for HSE Funded Agencies. This self-audit tool is designed to help services assess and monitor their own compliance with Children First obligations.
- The checklist should be completed annually by the service manager (or manager responsible for Children First compliance).
- Completed checklists should be provided to the HSE on request.
