Infectious Mononucleosis Screen

  • Other details: A negative IM screen test does not preclude the possibility of an Infectious Mononucleosis infection. Additional testing for Epstein Barr viral antibodies is recommended if clinical symptoms persist.

Influenza A & B

  • Specimen Type: Nasopharyngeal swabs or aspirate.
  • Specimen Container: Nasopharyngeal swabs are collected into Universal Transport Medium (UTM). Nasal aspirates/washes are collected into a sterile universal container.

  • Specimen Requirements: Serology tests for Influenza not routinely available.
  • Direct detection/culture is more clinically relevant.
  • Other details: Samples can be stored for up to 72 hours at 2-8°C before processing

Inoculation injury - specimen storage.
